It Is Not Marriage Calling something marriage does not make it marriage. Marriage has always been a covenant between a man and a woman which is by its nature ordered toward the procreation and education of children and the unity and wellbeing of the spouses. Finances For those who argue that banning gay marriage is unconstitutional, it is important to note that the Constitution does not prohibit the government from controlling the institution of marriage, or restricting marriage to being between a man and a woman, in any sense. Marriage as an institution exists for the specific purpose of child rearing; a purpose that same sex couples cannot carry out biologically, and which studies suggest they are less equipped to carry out emotionally. It is through children alone that sexual relations become of importance to society, and worthy to be taken cognizance of by a legal institution. Preserving the Institution Marriage is traditionally designed as a union between a man and a woman. It was defined this way by our founding fathers, and has been continued to be defined as such by our government.
